Private Parties & Cocktail Hours
Intimate, elegant, atmosphere-driven music
“I can confidently recommend Brian as one of the best piano players I’ve worked with. He always comes fully prepared, delivering the music exactly as intended while adding his own creative flair that makes every session memorable.” - Adam Satterwhite
FAQ for Cocktails and private parties
Whether you’re hosting a cocktail reception, dinner party, birthday celebration, or holiday gathering, live piano music can elevate the atmosphere without overpowering conversation. Below are common questions I receive about performing for private and cocktail-style events in Raleigh and the Triangle.
What types of events do you perform for?
Birthday parties, anniversaries, rehearsal dinners, holiday gatherings, fundraisers, home events, and rooftop receptions.
Will guests still be able to hold conversations while you play?
Absolutely! By design, my style is not intrusive. It complements the atmosphere and builds a subtle aesthetic.
How much space do you need to set up?
If I bring my keyboard and PA, I need at least a 6x8 space, plus access to a power outlet.
Can you tailor the music to the mood of the party?
Yes. I adjust to the intensity of conversation around me. If people are excited to see one another and conversing enthusiastically, I play to match. If the setting is an intimate private family celebration, I keep the musical texture delicate and light.
Can guests request songs?
I travel with an iPad full of songs. My repertoire is based on the standards of the Great American Songbook, but I also play some pop songs, and if a certain contemporary artist is a favorite of yours, I can learn some specific songs in advance.
Can you bring a bass player or vocalist?
Adding another musician adds so much interest and variety to a performance. I frequently enjoy playing with a number of talented musicians in the greater Raleigh area. The musical and spontaneous interaction when performing is unique to this style and delights audiences.
Why choose live piano instead of a playlist?
It is easy to just press play on your stereo or TV and forget about it. In fact, anyone can do it! But few people can come into your space and provide a bespoke, warm, and engaging art presentation just for you on the spot! Authentic music creation in a live setting represents the culmination of years of dedicated practice, awareness, and dynamic responsiveness to the environment, as well as interactive experience engaging with other musicians and the listeners in ways that a passive music playback system cannot match.
Listen in to a little warm-up and sound check with Rick Wolff on bass at The Umstead. Even while getting used to the room and adjusting equipment settings, the music adds a cheerful delight to the ambiance of the space, welcoming guests to enjoy a cocktail, conversation, and delicious dinner.
